CUARTETO LATINOAMEICANO CELEBRATING 20TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON 2001-2002

Celebrating their 20th Anniversary, the Cuarteto Latinoamericano opened their 4-concert series in Pittsburgh September 20 in the newly renovated Kresge Auditorium featuring the world premieres of the three winners in their 2001 composer's competition.

Subsequent Pittsburgh performances are scheduled on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm on November 21, which features the world premiere of Reza Vali's Calligraphy No. 4, for Santoor and Quartet, with guest Darius Saghafi. In the New Year, the series continues January 24, and concludes April 25 with guest artist, clarinetist Joaquin Valdepenas.

On tour, the Cuarteto appears at Colgate University and Haverford College Pennsylvania; Tucson, a week's residency at Fullerton and the Music Guild of Los Angeles and Northridge, and in a week's residency for Mainly Mozart including San Diego in California, as well as Connecticut University at Storrs. They will make their debut in New Zealand, appearing in four concerts at the Wellington Festival in March.

Their New York Performance is set for April 23rd on the International Chamber Series, with guest artist, clarinetist Joaquin Valdepenas and will present the New York premiere of Joaquin Gutierrez Heras's Clarinet Quintet, the Brahms Clarinet Quintet and Robert Sierra's 12 Bagatelas.

This season also includes tours in Chili, Venezuela, and performances with the UNAM Orchestra in Mexico. In the summer of 2002 the Cuarteto returns to the Austin Chamber Music Festival in Texas, and for Maverick series in New England.
