Cuarteto Latinoamericano
Alvaro Bitran, Los Angeles, Nov., 2000

Dear members of Cuarteto Latinoamericano,

Thank you again for your fantastic extended residency with San Francisco Performances during March 1995. You executed each component with insight and professionalism. We plan to use this residency as a model for future extended residencies.

The programs at Mission High School were my personal favorites. Your informal approach blended with serious musicianship immediately earned the students' respect, interest and attention. By addressing the students in Spanish and performing music by Latin American composers, you established a bridge of communication which facilitated unprecedented and overwhelming participation and interaction from the students. This was truly an inspiring experience.

Overall, the residency was especially remarkable for its breadth. You adapted your performance and presentation for a wide variety of audiences. And you did so with great ease, which was immediately sensed by the audiences.

In addition, your dedication to performing works written by Latin American composers introduced this remarkable repertoire to many, many people of a wide variety of backgrounds.

Thank you again for your commitment to performing arts education. We look forward to working with you again soon.

Warmly,

Larissa Roesch

CUARTETO LATINOAMERICANO
RESIDENCIES

Introduced as "Extended Engagements" in the 1960's by Ann Summers, residencies have become important for audience development on all levels, whether in schools or communities.

The members of the Cuarteto conduct lecture-demonstrations in English, Spanish or Portuguese to introduce the classical music of Latin America.
There are three types of Residencies: (We are always open to suggestions)

  1. THE MORNING AFTER:
Before leaving a community after a concert, they are able to conduct a residency activity, without an additional fee.
  2. THREE-DAY RESIDENCY:
Once a concert has been scheduled, we can reserve the days before or after for residency activities. (grants may be available for these sessions)
  3. A SEASONAL RESIDENCY:
This is three or four 3-Day Residencies spread over a season, and includes a series of 3 or 4 concerts, which can be sold on subscription, or integrated in existing series.

In these sessions, the community benefits, the audience grows with each visit, and the teaching elements are much more significant support for young string players or quartets. Where appropriate, a competition for student quartets can be organized. These "Extended Engagements" are flexible and can be designed to the needs of your organization or community.
