ROY STEVENS Following a successful international career as a dramatic baritone at Teatro alla Scala and the Metropolitan Opera, Mr. Stevens made his Heldontenor debut with Austria's Tiroler Festspiele in July 2003, singing the role of Siegfried in the Gala Opening Concert. In both the 2003 and 2004 Tyrol Festival he covered the roles of Loge in "Das Rheingold", the title role of Siegfried, and sang the title role of Stravinsky's "Oedipus Rex". In 2005 at the Tiroler Festspiele he took over the role of Loge in "Das Reingold" from Fancisco Araiza and covered Siegfried in both "Siegfried" and "Gotterdamerung", including the "24-hour Ring", as well as the Santander Festival in Spain. Mr. Stevens made his American tenor debut in 2003 in a Wagner concert in Washington, D.C. presented by Thomas Stewart, Evelyn Lear and the Wagner Society, singing excerpts from "Siegfried" and "Gotterdamerung". He sang the Froh-Siegmund-Siegfried-Siegfried roles in "The One Evening Ring" with the Berkeley Opera in California, and in concerts in Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Dallas. In 2004 he returned to Washington D.C. for a second orchestra concert, singing excerpts from "Tristan" and "Siegfried". In 2005 he created the title role of Dan Hostrom's "The Return of Odysseus" in Philadelphia and sang a command performance of excerpts from Odysseus at the new Greek Embassy in Washington. At Teatro Massimo in Palermo he appeared as Edrisi in Szymanowski's "Re Ruggero". Highlights in 2006 include reprising his Loge at the Tiroler Festspiele (as well as in 2008) and singing Siegmund to Janis Martin's Sieglinde in a Gala Concert in California. |
